TOMATO

It is mainly grown in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions in our country. Tomatoes that are both consumed as table tomato and used in the industry are grown both in open areas and in greenhouses. Tomatoes are made canned food and tomato paste in the industry. The types such as bunch, pink, oval, elika, cocktail are prominent for export.

Tomatoes that are grown in open areas in summer months are grown in greenhouses in winter. For this reason, it has the ability to be harvested and offered to the market throughout the year.

TRUSS TOMATOES

Truss tomatoes are mainly grown in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions in Turkey. These are preferred more in consuming on the table. These tomato types are grown in open area in the summer months and in the greenhouses in the winter months. For this reason, it has the characteristic to be harvested and offered to the market during the year.

CUCUMBER

Cucumber is mainly grown in the Mediterranean region both in open areas and in greenhouses in Turkey. Cucumber, a low-nutrient vegetable, is used mostly for making salads and pickles.

Types such as thorn, silor and gherkin are very important for export. Since it is cultivated like tomatoes, it is harvested for 12 months and offered to the market.

PEPPER

It is mainly grown in the Mediterranean region both in the open areas and in greenhouses in our country. The province where production is most common is Antalya.

In export, types such as long green pepper, Çarli, Macar, Bianca, Kapya, bell pepper, california and Jalapon are preferred. It is harvested for 12 months and offered to the market. Turkey has an important place in the foreign market in terms of quality and quantity of the exported pepper.

EGGPLANT

It is a product grown both in the field and in greenhouses. It is mainly grown in Mersin – Antalya – Hatay – Aydın and Bursa provinces.

Eggplant exports in significant quantities from Turkey to Central and Eastern Europe continue to be carried out. Generally the ones that are long oval and lump shaped are preferred. Almost all year, it is a product that is harvested and offered to the market.

SQUASH

The squash which is grown abundantly in Turkey has many types within itself. Vegetable marrow is the most preferred among these types.

This type that is light green has a thin and long structure. It is among the important plant species in terms of export. It is a product that is offered to the market all the time except June and July.

CARROT

The carrot is grown for the fleshy root part which is in the shape of cone and the most commonly known type is the orange one. A large proportion of it is grown in Ankara Beypazarı district in Turkey.

Apart from Ankara, it is also grown in Konya – Antalya – Hatay – Mersin – İzmir respectively. The black carrots grown in Konya are a high export value in terms of the pharmaceutical and cosmetics sectors.

CABBAGE

Cabbage that is grown as winter vegetables is separated into species such as round-headed cabbage, kantar cabbage, Brussels sprouts, savoy cabbage and cauliflower.

Various species of cabbage are consumed by cooking as well as consuming instead of salads or pickles as uncooked. The species which is known as Beyazbaş is the uppermost one in terms of export.

TURNIP

A large proportion of the turnip which is generally grown in the Mediterranean region is grown in Çukurova. It is a vegetable which is taprooted, white, pink, purple, notched with feathery leaves.

It is mostly consumed as a salad and uncooked. There are species such as hazelnut turnip, armoracia rusticana, radish, horseradish. Mostly radish is preferred in export.

CAULIFLOWER

Cauliflower is a winter vegetable that is consumed by being eaten the non-bloom leaves, that is rich in vitamins and minerals and containing antioxidant substances.

Although it has many different colors, it is the white one that is grown mostly in our country. White cauliflower types which have a long shelf life is exported abroad in large quantities.

PATATO

Although potato is grown in many parts of our country in our country, it is mostly grown in the Central Anatolia Region. Nevşehir and Niğde are the main cities in which this product is grown mostly.

CELERY

This plant from umbelliferae is a pungent edible plant whose roots and leaves are used as vegetable. The origin of the celery plant is Mediterranean and Middle Eastern. Its leaves are yellowish-white. An edible plant, celery is also added to pickles and soup as aromatizer. In Turkey, celery type which is also known as “tuber celery” is grown in large quantities in the Aegean and Marmara Region.

ONION

Although this product is grown in almost every region except the Eastern Anatolia Region in Turkey that has different climatic conditions, it is mainly grown in Central Anatolia, Eastern Mediterranean, Central Black Sea and the Marmara Region. The cities where onions are grown most are Ankara and Amasya.

GARLIC

There are vitamins A, B and C in the garlic whose motherland is known as Central Asia. It can be used instead of a medicine against diseases as a natural antibiotic. It consists of cloves in the form of small heads. It is a white plant with pink flowers. It is also grown in Turkey.

14% of the garlic plant is grown in Kastamonu in Turkey. Kastamonu – Taşköprü garlic is the most famous and the best garlic.

LEEK

In Turkey, the cane leeks are grown mostly in Bursa, İstanbul, İzmir and Ankara; the black leeks are grown in Central Anatolia and Denizli. As it is very suitable for growing in all kinds of climatic conditions, it is grown in most parts and consumed abundantly.
